Jesus: The Most Beautiful Name Above Every Name
One of my favorite songs is “What a Beautiful Name,” by Hillsong. It’s a glorious meditation on the power of Jesus’ Name in the world and in the lives of His people.
Whenever I listen to this song, I’m reminded of the truth in Philippians 2:9: “Therefore [because Jesus so completely humbled Himself], God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names” (NLT).
Jesus, God’s only Son, was born with supreme power and deity, yet He chose to be obedient to His Father’s plans. Rather than exert His divine power and crush sinners when He came to earth, Jesus “took the humble position of a slave” and “died a criminal’s death on a cross” (Philippians 2:7, 8, NLT).
His humility granted us eternal salvation!
And now, the Father has glorified Jesus, placing Him above all other names and powers, “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow” (Philippians 2:10, NLT). This humble Savior, Who died on a cross, has now been crowned King of the Universe–yet He still stoops to love us.
His Name is our greatest comfort in the face of grief and disaster and our strongest plea when the devil accuses us.
Let this powerful song encourage and guide you in your prayer time today! Once you’ve listened to “What a Beautiful Name,” reflect on the lyrics and say this prayer:
Say this prayer:
Jesus, Your Name is the sweetest and most beautiful Name I know. At the very sound of Your Name, I feel peace in the midst of my hurt, pain, and discouragement. You are an ever-present help in my times of trouble, and You’re as close as the whisper of Your Name. When I feel too weak to make it through another day, I find comfort in speaking Your precious Name, Jesus. As I call out to You today, please speak to my heart and encourage me with Your loving words and thoughts. Help me experience the mighty power of Your Name working through my life.
